SLIM Shots Weighs In on Harvard Study Calorie Reduction More Important than Diet Itself

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

When it comes to weight loss, calorie reduction is as vital as counting fats, protein, and carbs, and more significant when the food plot closely resembles your normal diet. Such are the findings of the largest proscribed study published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine, Comparison of Weight-Loss Diets with Different Compositions of Stout, Protein, and Carbohydrates.

Wayne, NJ (PRWEB) March 1, 2009 — When it comes to weight loss, counting calories is as vital as counting fats, protein, and carbs, and more significant when the food plot closely resembles your normal diet. Such are the findings of the largest proscribed study published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine, Comparison of Weight-Loss Diets with Different Compositions of Stout, Protein, and Carbohydrates.

Comprised of 811 overweight and obese adults, the Study measured the weight loss results of 4 diets, low stout versus high stout and average protein versus high protein and in comparison of highest and lowest carbohydrate content. Regardless of diet composition, all participants reduced their caloric intake by 750 calories a day, exercised 90 minutes a week, and underwent intense behavioral counseling. All 4 diets resulted in participants losing weight and sinking the risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Weight loss was more significant among those whose Study diet closely resembled the composition of their normal diet. After 12 months, but, all groups, on average, slowly regained body weight.

Frank Sacks, a lead researcher and professor of cardiovascular disease prevention at Harvard says, “What we found is that the most vital thing for people to lose weight is to choose a heart-healthy diet and to keep the amounts down.” Tasks that, according to executive vice president of SLIM Shots, Ron Boger, may be simpler said than done.

Citing that Study participants had difficulty achieving the goals of their assigned group even with intensive behavioral counseling, Boger clarified, “Without the use of an appetite suppressant like Slim Shots, trimming calories can be hard to accomplish, let alone maintain. Not everyone can afford behavioral modification counseling, but at .30 a day, most everyone can afford SLIM Shots.”

One thing is clear; the Study affirms that weight loss is more about calorie reduction and exercise than the composition of the diet.
