Preventing Childhood Obesity Through CHILE

The UNM School of Medicine’s division of Prevention and Populace Sciences is teaming up with rural Head Start programs across the state in an effort to curb New Mexico’s alarming rates of childhood obesity and diabetes. The NIH-funded study, dubbed Child Shape Initiative for Lifelong Eating and Exercise (CHILE), focuses on helping educators introduce healthy eating and exercise habits to their students, while decreasing the amount of time children spend in front of the television.
